The Inflorescence
·
The changes of shoot apical
meristem to floral meristem form with improved shoot is called a flower.
·
The apex yields different
kinds of floral appendages sideways at consecutive nodes in the place of
leaves.
·
Internodes do not stretch
and the axis gets reduced. When a shoot tip changes into a flower, it is always
lonely.
·
The arrangement of flowers
on the floral axis is termed as inflorescence.
·
Based on whether the apex
gets changed into a flower or continues growth, two major types of
inflorescences are termed – racemose and cymose.
·
In racemose type of
inflorescences the main axis continues to grow, the flowers are borne laterally
in an acropetal succession.
Racemose
inflorescence
·
In cymose
type of inflorescence the main axis terminates in a flower, hence is limited in
growth. The flowers are borne in a basipetal order.
